Requirements Engineer

What does a Requirements Engineer do?

requirements engineer records, describes and manages the requirements for the product to be developed. His work is very important for a development project as it forms the basis for all further development steps.

He analyses and evaluates the steps, taking account of the project framework conditions and the relevant norms and standards, and documents the requirements in the specifications for all subsequent development steps. For larger-scale and more complex systems, he needs this information to break the system down into sub-systems and identify the (partial) requirements that have to be met. In doing so, he often works together with the system engineers. For smaller projects, the requirements engineer sometimes also takes on the role of system engineer.
